Linda originally a native of New York has lived in Sarasota since 2005. While living in New York Linda was employed by The U.S. Customs Service for 23 years. Linda has been employed with The Sarasota Family Y since 2007 teaching private swim lessons, water aerobics classes, and Mommy and Me classes. Many of Linda’s students have graduated to become competitive swimmers with the Sarasota Sharks swim team. This summer she and her daughter Gabrielle, also a former Sharks Team member, have continued to establish the Adapted Aquatic classes. Linda holds several water certifications. Life Guard Certification, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, AEA water aerobics certification, and CPR/AED certification. Linda is also employed with The Sarasota County Transportation Unit, assisting Special Needs children. Linda likes to spend her free time volunteering at Hope Church, Oak Park Therapeutic Pool, and is annually involved with The Sarasota Special Olympics. Linda brings to Mermaid Swim School her vast knowledge and experience, as well as her imagination, intuitiveness, patience and genuine love of water instructing.
Julie was born into a family that loves the water and has been swimming her whole life. She began to swim competitively at the young age of five. She swam on her local competitive team and high school swim team. Julie received her lifeguard certification and CPR certification in 1983, and has been a swim instructor since 1982. She has taken many different roles in her career with swimming, such as being the swim instructor for Farmingdale University, Aquatics Director at a children’s day camp, and most recently has become a swim instructor and aerobics director at the local YMCA. All of her certifications are up to date, and Julie strives to become a better swim instructor year after year. Julie was also a nursery school teacher and a teacher assistant for the special education department for students of all ages. Children with special needs carry a place in her heart. Julie has devoted a huge part of her life to teaching children how to be safe in the water, and continues to do so with Mermaid Swim School. She always keeps the lessons upbeat and fun, while working on core skills necessary to becoming a great swimmer. She cannot wait to share her love of the water with your child!
Jason has a passion for fitness and weight loss, and has helped hundreds of patients reach their goals by sharing that passion with them. Jason is from Sarasota and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School, where he was a member of the swim team. He graduated from the University of South Florida, was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and competed on the club swim team. Jason earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, FL. Jason has a wife and two small children, whom he absolutely adores. When not spending time with them, he is an active triathlete, and competes in several races each year. He has worked with several area sports teams, including Sarasota Crew as well as the Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team.
Since relocating to Florida recentlt from Pittsburgh, Corrie, her husband and two boys have been enjoying the endless opportunities for being outdoors. She enjoys swimming, rollerblading, kayaking, biking, and naturally, the beach! She lived in Hawaii for nearly four years, where she lifeguarded, taught swim lessons, and enjoyed open water swimming events. She's been involved in sports and fitness since childhood, playing softball & basketball, and running track. She worked as a lifeguard all through high school and college, and taught the entire time. She is a Registered Nurse by profession, but in 2005, earned her Personal Trainer's Certificate from ACE, with a Group Fitness Certificate and Water Fitness the following year. She's been teaching group fitness ever since, including strength, kickboxing, plyometric training, bootcamp, and spin classes. She recently became a NAUI-certified scuba diver. Corrie believes that everyone should have a healthy respect for the aquatic environment and the best time to learn is at an early age!
Sam is new to the Sarasota area and grew up in Louisville Kentucky. She gained a passion for swimming at a young age when visiting the beaches of Siesta Key and spent her summers working at the neighborhood pool. Sam began swimming competitively at the age of eight and qualified to join the high school swim team in the sixth grade. In high school, during her summer breaks Sam learned of her passion for teaching and helping the younger children on the neighborhood swim team perfect their strokes. She has a very positive attitude and makes learning to swim fun! Her specialty is helping children come out of their shell, so they can reach their full potential as a swimmer. Sam studied Communication at the University of Kentucky. After leaving Kentucky, Sam realized her lifelong dream of living near her summer time vacation spot, Siesta Key! When she is not at the beach she enjoys spending time outdoors with her two rescue dogs, Neville and Teddy, as well as cheering on her hometown team the Louisville Cardinals! Sam values safety above all else, and looks forward to making your child a safe and confident swimmer!
Trevor Donnelly resides in Lakewood Ranch and teaches in Manatee County. Trevor has always had a passion for the water, and growing up in Florida allowed him to spend most of his time swimming and perfecting his strokes. At a very young age, he began shadowing his older brother, Griffin, who is also a swim instructor. As a member of a very large family, Trevor was able to put that passion and ambition to good use teaching the younger members of his family. Trevor obtained his Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate in early 2015 and has been a valued instructor with Mermaid Swim School ever since! As a Florida native, he takes water safety very seriously and is an advocate for the Safe Children Coalition. He believes all children should be safe in and around the water. Trevor has high energy and looks forward to helping your child become safe in a positive and fun way! When Trevor is not teaching, he is a top student at Saint Stephens Episcopal School and actively competes in other sports such as baseball and soccer.
Laura Phillips was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and moved down to the sunshine state in early 2016. At the age of four, Laura started swimming competitively for her local swim team. She fell in love with competing and continued to do so through out high school. When she turned fourteen, she was offered a position as a swim instructor at her community pool. One year later she became a certified Lifeguard, and eventually worked her way up to a management position for the pool. When Laura went off to college, she took her love for the water with her by joining the swim team, where she was named captain her senior year. After graduation, Laura realized her life long dream of instructing full time. For the past five years, Laura has spent her time working with children of all ages and skill levels. She has had the pleasure to instruct high school swim teams and adults as well. Laura especially enjoys working with children who have special needs as she feels a true connection with them. Laura's biggest passions in life include working with children and swimming, which makes her feel truly grateful she is able to instruct. Laura has over fifteen years of relatable experience, and looks forward to connecting with your family!
Jordyn is originally from Cleveland, OH. She started taking swim lessons at a very young and joined her first competitive swim team when she was only 8 years old. She has a competitive swimming background, and became a Lifeguard in high school. She has also previously been an Assistant High School Swim Coach, as well as a Head Swim Coach for a children's team. Jordyn is passionate about teaching children of all ages and also has a great deal of experience teaching children with special needs. Jordyn has a great demeanor and makes learning to swim fun and enjoyable for the kids! When Jordyn is not teaching you can find her working on her artwork, exercising, or spending time outside with her dogs and friends! Jordyn can't wait to teach your child to swim while also having fun!
Growing up in Annapolis, Maryland, a water-oriented town named "America's sailing capital," Leah has been raised to love all things ocean, beach and pool. A competitive swimmer starting at the age of 7 and continuing through every season up until college at Elon University in North Carolina, swimming has always been a passion of Leah's. With a Bachelors in Psychology with a focus on criminal justice, Leah works full-time for Pretrial Services in Sarasota County. Leah has many years of both life guarding and stroke instruction experience, enjoys working with children and adults of all ages, and looks forward to any opportunity in sharing her enthusiasm for swimming, water safety and aquatic fitness.
Leann grew up in Michigan and California. She started to swim at the early age of four. Some of her fondest memories are in Southern California standing by the pool in her red speedo waiting for swim lessons to begin. Leann has had a love for the water ever since. Her favorite stroke is freestyle and often swims a mile three or four times a week. She taught her three children how to swim at the age of six months. They still love to swim as adults. Leann is a Masters swimmer and a Triathlete and enjoys living in Sarasota, Florida. You can find her at the pool, cycling or running in this beautiful city. She is a Lifeguard at the Sarasota Ymca. Leann has both her Red Cross and Starguard Elite certifications. She believes everyone needs to learn how to swim for health and safety. She also has her Active aging and Aqua Aerobics certifications. Leann has the ability to connect with people and loves to have fun in the pool!
