Julie was born into a family that loves the water and has been swimming her whole life. She began to swim competitively at the young age of five. She swam on her local competitive team and high school swim team. Julie received her lifeguard certification and CPR certification in 1983, and has been a swim instructor since 1982. She has taken many different roles in her career with swimming, such as being the swim instructor for Farmingdale University, Aquatics Director at a children’s day camp, and most recently has become a swim instructor and aerobics director at the local YMCA. All of her certifications are up to date, and Julie strives to become a better swim instructor year after year. Julie was also a nursery school teacher and a teacher assistant for the special education department for students of all ages. Children with special needs carry a place in her heart. Julie has devoted a huge part of her life to teaching children how to be safe in the water, and continues to do so with Mermaid Swim School. She always keeps the lessons upbeat and fun, while working on core skills necessary to becoming a great swimmer. She cannot wait to share her love of the water with your child!
Jessica was born in Arkansas and moved to the sunshine state ten years ago. Her mother began as a lifeguard and instructor so before she knew how to walk, mom had her in the water! For years, Jessica went to CPR classes and swim lessons with mother. When she turned 16, she was able to retain her own lifeguard certifications. Jessica lifeguarded for four years and her last year at the YMCA she became the first head lifeguard there. Jessica taught swim lessons for two years, as well. After leaving the Y and moving towards retail, she realized she had a passion for working with kids and fitness! She recently got certified to teach water aerobics and is hoping she’ll be able to teach a multitude of classes ranging from spin to kick boxing. Above all, water safety is extremely important to Jessica! She witnessed several kids that were unable to swim over the years of lifeguarding and being in that career path showed her the significance of children knowing what to do if there is ever an emergency involving water. Jessica is extremely happy to get back in the water and can't wait to help you're children be safer and more confident in the pool.
Jackie was born and raised in Florissant, Missouri. Growing up, she, her 7 sisters and brother were all often herded to the local pool for swim lessons during the hot and humid summer months. As an adult, Jackie and her husband found they were spending many extended vacations on the beaches in Anna Maria, and eventually moved with their 3 daughters to Florida in 2001. Her passion is working with children and after fifteen plus years as a Sunday school teacher she decided to combine that passion with her love of the outdoors and water activities. She has found working with families and teaching their children to swim a very rewarding experience; one she thoroughly enjoys! When Jackie is not at her "day" job as a Senior Branch Administrator at Edward Jones, or teaching lessons with Mermaid Swim School, you will find her working out with her Beachbody team, hanging out with her daughters or walking on the beach with her husband.
