Anastacia was born and raised on a seaside town on the coast of Brazil and has loved the water since childhood. She swam competitively from ages 8-14 and participated in the Brazilian nationals. She then moved to London where she joined and trained with other teams until attending college, graduating with degrees in Psychology and Interior Design, while also working as a personal trainer. After moving to the United States, She began working for the City of Clearwater Beach, where she works as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and youth swim team coach, which allows her to use swimming as way to build confidence and self-discipline among students as they train for competition. She also recently passed her physical endurance test to work as a beach lifeguard and loves to train and encourage others to stay active as part of a healthy and vital lifestyle.
Abby started swimming competitively when she was 5. She swam at Carlouel Yacht Club until she was 14. She hold one individual record at CYC and two relay records. She qualified for the Junior Olympics when she was 11 and continued qualifying through the age of 14. She swam on the varsity swim team in sixth grade as well. She had a strong passion and desire for swimming but she is all around athlete. When high school came around she decided to take a break from swimming and began pursuing soccer. She made her all-county team 3 years in a row, went to state semi-final, two regionals finals, won four district championships and was captain her senior year. She is currently a freshman in college and in her first semester she received a scholarship to Florida Southern College to continue her soccer career. After a change in heart, she has decided to take a step from soccer and focus on her education. She received a 3.75 her first year in college. She is now planning to pursue a degree in Nutrition and Communications. She still has a extreme passion for the water. She swim for fun and loves going surfing. She loves working with children of all ages and she is so excited to work hard, be encouraging and help so many to be successful in the swimming pool.
Kristany grew up on a cattle ranch in eastern Washington State where she was raised by her father and grandfather. With two cowboys and their western heritage, she grew up to be a cowgirl. She won several Rodeo Queen Titles, and speech competitions. These experiences have helped her grow into a person that is confident, well spoken, and a huge people person. The tiny town she lived in was surrounded by lakes, streams and rivers; she developed a passion for water at a very young age. At 15 years old she became a Red Cross lifeguard, and worked at her home town’s pool for 5 years. At 16 she got certified as a Red Cross water Safety Instructor and began teaching swimming lessons. When she was 20 she moved to Seattle and became a Lifeguard Instructor, and also expanded her love of aquatics to Scuba Diving. She loves children, and enjoys teaching and sharing her passion of water. Kristany is very excited to be in Florida and to be a part of Mermaid Swim School.
Melissa grew up in a small town west of Boston, Massachusetts, where she began swimming in her family pool at age 4, and performing in the musical theater at age 5. As a natural swimmer and singer, she continued learning and completing both YMCA and Red Cross swim programs, vocal and piano training, and performing in community and school theater through age 14. Upon graduating from high school, she worked as a summer camp Drama and Swim Instructor while completing her BA degree at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. In addition to her degree, she earned her Elementary Teacher Certification (K-6th Grade), and Early Education Certification (Infant-Pre-K) from the Massachusetts Office for Children. Melissa later moved to Clearwater, FL in 2003, and continued to work as a part-time teacher while working as a newly licensed real estate agent. Inspired by her 6-year old son, whom she taught to swim by age 3, she has returned to classroom teaching and tutoring, earning her Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate, Grades K-6th in 2015. She continues to instruct him along with other new children at her community pool, and is passionate to continue sharing her love of the water and its incredible gifts with others. Melissa also works as a Contract Technology Instructor for the city of Dunedin’s Hale Senior Activity Center and private clients in need of computer training."
Marielle is an experienced Red Cross Swim Instructor with over 10 years of experience. Ever since she can remember, Marielle has loved the water. She learned to swim in her family’s indoor pool in New England, and took swimming lessons as a youngster. After moving to Central Florida almost 24 years ago, she joined an organized swim team and swam competitively. While attending college, Marielle went to work for the Walt Disney World Resort as a Red Cross Lifeguard. Having previously taught with a program in Central Florida, Marielle has worked with hundreds of students. Marielle is thrilled she is able to share her knowledge and passion for swimming and water safety with the students of Mermaid Swim School. She has experience teaching people of all ages ranging from 6 months old to 74 years old. Marielle has attained an A.S. in Sports and Fitness and an A.A. in Psychology. She is also in the process of completing two Bachelor degrees at UCF, one in Sports & Exercise Science and the other in Psychology. In addition to instructing, Marielle is a self-employed wellness provider, specializing in integrated massage therapy and therapeutic yoga. Marielle is also a busy mother of four. She is looking forward to helping your family become proficient swimmers while passing on her zest for water safety and fun.
Ashley Wyland was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she swam competitively for 11 years including 4 years on the varsity swim team at Westminster College. During her many years of training, Ashley specialized in distance freestyle with her main events being the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle as well as the 50 and 100 free on many different relays. During her 4 years at Westminster, she gave lessons to children with varying ages and skill level as well as private lessons with a 9 year old girl who needed to work on her stroke skills and improve her times in the water. After graduating in May of 2015, she became an assistant swim coach for Baldwin Whitehall Aquatics where she worked with children ages 5-14, assisting them with practices, stroke skill, kicking, drills and ensuring their safety in and out of the water. Ashley majored in Environmental Science with a Spanish minor and she just recently moved to Tampa and is searching for a career in environmental education. She hopes to find a job at a zoo, aquarium or botanical garden where she can create programs based on environmental science and conservation while being surrounded by nature and animals. Ashley loves the beach and the water, animals, reading, music and attending concerts and her true passion is the environment. She also recently became a volunteer in the education department at the Florida Aquarium where she is excited to be able to work with children and animals.
Born and raised in Clearwater, FL, Melissa grew up in pools and the ocean. She loves all things adventure including surfing, paddle boarding, fishing, and wake-boarding. Melissa began working with children 10 years ago, while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After graduating, Melissa began working in accounting, started a business with her husband and continued to work with children, part-time, as a nanny. She decided to combine her love for the water and children, becoming a water safety instructor. She has her Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification, as well as CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
